Dart manipulation - neck dart

Hi It's Dwaine, welcome back to my fashion blog.  Hope you are enjoying my post so far!

In this tutorial I am going to teach you how to create a neck dart.  This is a very simple dart manipulation so lets begin.

First of all we need to trace off our bodice block, this is shown below.

Once you have traced off your block, accurately fill in your dart lines and add the pattern information.

As pictured below, cut down the top dart line nearest the shoulder, then the dart line on the bottom nearest the side seam and then create a new dart position from the neck to the centre where your dart begins.

Close the two original darts and glue down.  This will create a large opening at the neck, which will become your new dart.

Tidy up your pattern by removing edges left from closing the two darts and create a new curve at the waist line.

At the centre of your pattern where the dart begins, we are going to raise this so that the dart is not directly on the bust or apex.  I have raised mine around 1cm to its new position, where the arrow is pointing.
