In this short tutorial I am going to show you how to create a flared skirt from the basic skirt block.
I am going to be doing this tutorial with a quarter scale block but you can do it easily with your full scale draft in whatever particular size.
Cross out the dart and draw in a new hem shape at the bottom edge of your skirt.
Include all part information for example; grain line, garment type (skirt), front or back, size and seam allowance.
In this particular block we have no seam allowance so you would write 'NET' on the pattern.
We now do this for the back, which is exactly the same but in reverse. We pivot out the dart clockwise to create the flare towards the side seam.
Draw in the new hem shape with a pattern master
Once you become more familiar with the movement you will not need to include a dart so you can keep your patterns. Try to make a nice curve on your hem.
I have removed the point left from removing the dart and created a smooth curve. This will make the garment finish much more aesthetically pleasing, and makes it easier to put on a waist band if you decide to include one.
Remember to include all pattern information. I was naughty and didn't write 'back' on this draft.

Download quarter scale skirt pattern below:
Draw around the basic quarter scale skirt block block - including the dart.
Pivot out the dart by holding down the block at the bottom of the dart to control the movement.
move anti clockwise until the right side of the dart touches the left side. Then, re-draw the side seam and waist line from the new dart position. Keeping the centre front and left side of the dart the exactly the same.
Below is a close up of where you need to pivot the dart out to. After this movement there will be no darts in your design or finished garment.
